  • BMW Helicopter stewardship timber sale contract-contract close out of completed timber harvest units by sale administration.
  • BMW Reoffer timber sale contract- Skyline tree felling and hauling out logs onto FS road #6210 continues above Kirk Hill on NFS lands. Area closure remains in effect for public safety.
  • Non-commercial fuels-Burning of hand piles begin in the Moser Creek area and will continue through the winter season, depending on weather conditions. A broadcast burn on 116 acres (unit 19) was completed west of Langohr Campground. Campground and road closures in effect for public safety. The goal and objective of the prescribed burn was to reduce fuel loads and lower the risk of high severity wildland fires in the Bozeman municipal watershed.
September 2024
  • BMW Helicopter stewardship timber sale contract-This contract is now complete, 208 acres of large diameter tree thinning adjacent to Bozeman and Leverich Creeks accomplished. Weed spraying and grass seeding to follow.
  • BMW Reoffer timber sale contract-Skyline tree felling and hauling out logs onto FS road #6210 continues above Kirk Hill on NFS lands. Area closure on NFS Lands remains in effect for public safety.
August 2024
  • Helicopter thinning near Leverich Canyon trail loop on #435 and #436 is complete and trail is back open for public use.
  • Helicopter logging continues west of Bozeman Creek. Log trucks hauling on Nash Road to South 19th Street.
  • Skyline logging continues above Kirkhill and hauling logs out of Moser on #6210 road and down Hyalite Canyon.
  • Mastication contract in Moser area complete.
  • Crews conducting small diameter thinning in Moser area off of the #6210 road.
  • Weed contract spraying occurring in the project area along main roads and some decommissioned roads.
July 2024
  • BMW Reoffer contract starts skyline logging. Felling occurring in units above Kirkhill.
  • Area closure in place for the northern most portion of the remaining skyline units above Kirkhill and the northern portion of #6210 road. Closure orders and maps can be found on the Custer Gallatin National Forest website.
  • Log trucks hauling out of Moser area on #6210 road and down Hyalite Canyon. Work expected to continue into October of this year.
  • Mastication contract for small diameter thinning starts in Moser area.
  • Prep work for burning
June 2024
  • BMW helicopter contract starts. Felling in units in the Leverich Canyon area started, including units that cross Leverich Canyon trail. Helicopter service landing is at the City of Bozeman’s water treatment plant.
  • Trail closure in place on #435 and #436 Leverich Canyon loop, closure will be in effect until September (possibly sooner). Closure orders and maps can be found on the Custer Gallatin National Forest website.
  • Log trucks hauling on Nash Road to South 19th Street. Work expected to continue into September of this year.
May 2024
  • Continue prep work for unit 19 broadcast burned planning for spring. This broadcast burn was postponed due to weather conditions.
April 2024
  • Prep work occurring for unit 19 broadcast burn planned for spring. This unit is west of Langohr Campground.
March 2024
  • Burning of large commercial and small hand slash piles occurring in the project area.
